Spring Flowers

This picture was taken this spring on an outing to view our state flower, about an hour and a half away from our home.

8 Things About Me

Inspired by Plumleigh at Something Good and wanting to humanize this blog, I have decided to make a list of things you might not guess about me.

1. I have been to Latin America (Mexico and Panama) and East Asia, but never to Europe or Africa. I would like to go to at least some places in Europe some day.

2. If I could become proficient in one language, it would be Spanish--because the language could be very useful career-wise.

3. I would give up my car for everyday use if I could. I try to take the subway to work once or twice a week (with a short ride on the bus or a 30 minute walk). After the London bombings, I stayed away for a while, but I am back to using the subway.

4. Rather than drive five or six hours to go someplace I have driven to before, I would rather fly.

5. If I had plenty of time to travel, I would most like to take the train (but I have learned that you can never rely on Amtrak to be on time).

6. When I was in college, I wondered what it would be like to live in New York or San Francisco. Now that I have my own family and my roots are established here, I don’t care so much anymore.

7. In my parents’ culture, a butterfly fluttering around you can signify the spirit of a deceased family member. When I see a butterfly in our garden, I think about my father.

8. When I was in junior high school, seeing “Star Trek II” turned me into a devoted Star Trek fan. This lasted about ten or fifteen years, until Paramount drove the franchise into the ground.

This picture was taken by my wife last summer when we took a trip to Vancouver and Butchart Gardens outside Victoria.
